No bin collections on the day of the Queen’s funeral

Date Released - 14/09/2022

There will be no Tameside bin collections on Bank Holiday Monday 19 September – the day of Her Majesty the Queen’s funeral.

Households that were due a green bin collection on Monday 19 September, will now have collections on Tuesday instead. Those due a black or blue bin collection on Monday, will have collections on Wednesday instead.

There will be no brown bin collections from Monday 19 September to Wednesday 21 September, to enable crews to catch up with Monday’s rounds.

Tameside Council Executive Member Cllr Denise Ward, who is responsible for waste services, said: “We’ve agreed these changes to collections on the day of the Queen’s funeral to allow our bin crews, who work most other bank holidays, the opportunity to watch the funeral and pay their respects to Her Majesty. We also didn’t want the noise of bin collections to disturb the peace and opportunity for quiet reflection in our residential neighbours during the funeral service.

“Crews will catch up with all but the brown bin collections, which will be collected on the scheduled day the following week. Thank you to everyone for your understanding in these extenuating circumstances.”

Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open as normal on the Bank Holiday.
